Its serious but trade has advantages.
It is safe to say the next few weeks and months are going to be challenging for many small businesses including Fish & Chip shops. However, it’s not all doom and gloom! We are speaking to Fish & Chip shop owners across the country on a daily basis and contrary to what we may expect some are actually reporting an upturn in trade in recent days with people using the local chippy as a central hub within the community and a bit of normality amongst all the uncertainty.
Now that restaurants have been forced to close, take-away shops serving residential communities seem to be fairing well. With some people having a perception that they might not be able to get all they need from supermarkets at the moment take away food is providing a good and trusty alternative for them.
Many shops who have done deliveries for years as well as many that are just now starting to do them for the first time are also providing a valuable community service for those in self-isolation, unable to go out to buy supplies of their own.
Fish & Chip restaurants that have been forced to stop operating are now using the restaurant space for customers to come in and collect take away food while still maintaining social distancing.
Reassuring customers about how health and hygiene standards are being maintained will not only be hugely needed right now but also shows how professional the fish and chip industry can be.
We continue to operate as usual through telephone conversations and email and are here to discuss any aspect of the trade. If you are interested in a particular fish and chip shop but do not want to visit at this time we can in most cases provide additional photographs or in some cases arrange a video tour.
While there is no doubt it’s going to be a tough time for business the fish and chips trade is resilient and will adapt and survive and be ready to push ahead when this is behind us.
